I’ve been painting for as long as I can remember! Whenever my mom painted when I was kid, I was always right there to help. Through the years, and now making it my business, I’ve come up with my top 5 tips when painting interior walls.
No Taping!
Give yourself time, I promise your skill will improve. Go slow and steady, you’ll get it. Perfecting this will save you a tremendous amount of time by not taping.
Edge Second
You'd be surprised at how close you can get to edges with the roller! And, that means that it's less time edging a thick line. I use the method of Roll, Edge, Edge, Roll. This will ensure that your brush strokes are feathered out too. If you're doing the room by yourself, take it one wall at a time.
My absolute favorite brush is the Purdy XL 2.5″ Angled one below.
Paint Ceilings First
If you are repainting your ceilings, paint them first and edge onto the wall to create a fresh line with your wall color.
Remove Trim or Flooring
If you're replacing trim or flooring pull it off before you start. Then you don’t have to worry about edging or a mess. Once you’re done painting, install your floor and replace the trim.
Power Roll
Use a paint power roller, even if the job is small. Saves you time so you're not always going back to the tray, you don't have to bend over to use it, and it reaches most places without a ladder. I use the inexpensive Wagner Smart Roller.
