  • Chalk line
  • Utility knife
  • Straight edge
  • Vinyl plank cutter or saw
  • J-roller
  • Tapping block
  • Hammer
  • Spacers

Materials you'll need:

  • LVT flooring
  • Underlayment (if necessary)
  • Adhesive (if necessary)

Step 1: Measure and Plan

Measure the length and width of your room and calculate the square footage to determine how much LVT flooring you'll need. Plan the layout of your flooring, keeping in mind that you'll want to avoid small pieces along the edges of the room. Use a chalk line to mark the center of the room.

Step 2: Prepare the Underlayment

If you're installing LVT over a concrete subfloor, you'll need to use an underlayment to provide a moisture barrier and cushioning. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installing the underlayment.

Step 3: Install the First Row

Starting at the center of the room, lay out the first row of LVT planks. Make sure to leave a 1/4 inch gap between the planks and the wall for expansion. Use spacers to maintain the gap.

Step 4: Cut and install the remaining planks

Measure and cut the planks for the remaining rows, making sure to stagger the seams for a more natural look. Use a vinyl plank cutter or saw to make straight cuts.

Step 5: Install the last row

Measure and cut the planks for the last row, leaving a 1/4 inch gap between the planks and the wall. Use a tapping block and hammer to lock the planks into place.

Step 6: Roll the floor

Use a J-roller to roll the entire floor, ensuring that each plank is securely attached to the subfloor.

Step 7: Finish the installation

Remove the spacers and install baseboards or quarter round to cover the expansion gap along the walls.

By following these steps and using the right tools and materials, you can install luxury vinyl tile flooring in your home with ease. If you have any questions or need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out to a flooring professional for guidance.
