Spring Cleaning and Organization Tips from MeshedDesigns

Charlie Sheen? NO…Paint Sheen!

Getting the right paint sheen is important and will affect how it looks and performs.  What exactly does paint sheen mean? I'm glad you asked! Paint sheen refers to how much light a paint reflects, or its level of glossiness. Paints with higher sheens are shinier and reflect more light, while paints with lower sheens reflect less light.

Wall Paint

We always choose the sheen eggshell.

Why? Because it has the durability to be cleaned and we like the matte finish.  Read my blog 5 Interior Painting Tips too!

Millwork and Cabinetry

We choose to use satin sheen.

It looks matte, yet offers that velvety aesthetic with a slight hint of shine.

Our “Don't” Use List

Flat paint:  you can't clean it well.  You will live evidence behind of your efforts and that's why we go a different direction.

Gloss or semi-gloss: we almost never use primarily because with it's highly reflective nature it shows any imperfections in the surface.

Other Thoughts

Most home builders use flat paint so many of the homeowners eventually want to update that.  We've painted quite a few new homes with flat paint.  The photos posted here are from a newly built home that wanted flat paint.  We used Sherwin-Williams City Loft.  This color is a favorite for sure! It’s lighter than Agreeable Gray and a little closer to Accessible Beige.

Samplize

Don’t forget to use Samplize if you’re struggling to pick a paint color.  It’s a better way to test paint ~ instead of little paint cans, you get peel and stick paint colors! They come large enough so you’re not struggling to look at a small paint sample on your wall.
