 DETAILS

Our client recently purchased this home and it's a golden oak beauty from the 90's and what that means is there's some room for finish updates.  The bones of the entire house are great but it was time to bring new life to it with some customization.

The homeowners polished their DIY skills and updated the backsplash on their own and then we were commissioned to paint the cabinetry and update the fireplace.  First we applied a fresh coat of paint to the kitchen and entertainment center cabinetry in Behr Burnished Pewter and demoed the dated fireplace mantle.  Then we tiled the fireplace floor to ceiling with stacked stone and built a custom mantle out of poplar and stained it in espresso.

When working with golden oak and not planning on painting all of the millwork, it's best to go with a completely opposite stain finish and paint color as we did so that it didn't appear that the oak was trying to be matched.  Then by adding other dark décor elements and fixture finishes give the right pop of contrast throughout the rest of the home.
