I know I tend to hate on golden oak cabinetry but often times as a homeowner you have to be selective on the upgrades you choose and painting the cabinets [or replacing them] isn't always feasible.
Adding a backsplash is a great way to bring in a new focal point to your kitchen without major construction. Plus there's thousands of designs to choose from giving yourself the opportunity to really make your personality and style shine.
Our client picked out this glass mosaic from Menards pairing perfectly with the other decor in her home giving some pattern against their neutral countertops.
When it comes to design, I always recommend layering patters. For example; if you have a high patterned busy coutnertop, go with a solid color backsplash and neutral floor. But if you have neutral countertops, you can pretty much choose any design for the backsplash and not worry about focal point competition with the floor.
